Preparation
Even though clients tend to contact a language consultant after this stage, we strongly
encourage them to involve us from the initial stages so we can advise them on details that may have
an impact on the overall process and budget. The following aspects should be considered at this stage:
- Selecting target markets.
- Discussing schedule and budget.
- Defining design details.
- Registering country-specific domain names.
- Designating a Project leader.
Internationalization
This process involves the optimization of a website both from a development and design
perspective so it can handle multiple languages and cultural conventions without the need
for
re-design. These are some of the tasks performed at this stage:
- Identifying any software functionality that will require localization.
- Redesigning interface so it can be globally friendly and easily localized.
- Ensuring graphical elements will accommodate expansion nicely.
- Developing a style-guide and terminology database.
Localization
This process involves adapting a website to a specific language or culture so that it
appears native to a particular region. These are some of the tasks performed at this stage:
- Translation, editing, and proofreading of all translatable content.
- In-country review of translation.
- Staging of target website for quality assurance and functionality testing.
